This is a part-time paid position.
Pay and Hours: $12/hour for approximately 3 hours per week with the ability to earn a maximum of $500 for the duration of the internship.
Schedule: Flexible schedule with check-ins. Exact schedule will be determined upon hiring. Students have some opportunity to determine how many hours per week they work.
Remote Access: Due to COVID-19, we will not be meeting in person. The ability to have virtual meetings is essential (either video or phone calls, video preferred).
Students must have access to the internet and either a smartphone, tablet or laptop. This will be important for meetings and social media tasks. However, if you don’t have this equipment, please still apply and we may be able to help!
Kenny’s is an outdoor community and cultural celebration space in Homewood. The space is not to replace or replicate activities that are already happening in Homewood. Instead, Kenny’s gives a platform to those businesses and initiatives that are already happening in the neighborhood but may need a space to showcase them. Our focus is intentional community conversations and collaborations. Ultimately, Kenny’s exists to give residents a new and different experience and allow people from outside the neighborhood an avenue to experience the greatness that is Homewood. A key focus of ours, in addition to arts and entertainment, is health equity. We seek to bridge the gap between access and information so Homewood residents have opportunities to live a healthier lifestyle and improved wellbeing.
We’re looking for a creative, reliable and social media savvy student with an interest in communications, writing, public relations, marketing or a related field to work with our communications consultant on creating and executing a social media strategy.
Duties may include:
Writing creative and compelling captions for social media posts
Managing and monitoring Instagram and Facebook accounts
Basic graphic design using Canva for making social media images
Consistently engaging on social media by posting on schedule, commenting, and following relevant accounts in order to help grow our account
Brainstorming ideas for what to post on social media, when to post, and how to involve other community members and initiatives
Coming up with a #Hashtag strategy
In addition to the requirements listed at the top, the student should have a connection or familiarity with Homewood and a sincere interest in community development.
Skills and understanding of social media are also important. Whether you spend lots of time on your personal accounts and love showing up on the ‘Gram, or you just know how it works and want to improve your knowledge, we’ll consider applicants from a range of backgrounds. Basic familiarity with Facebook and Instagram is essential.
This is a creative and independent position with a lot of room for original ideas and work. You will be working and learning from our communications consultant, but will also be an asset to our team with your own input. Your voice will be heard. You must be willing and interested in learning best practices for social media and writing, and be able to take constructive feedback.
Lastly, you must have a self-starter personality, willingness to take initiative and accountability to showing up on your own schedule. This is an independent role. You MUST be comfortable with working independently after direction is given.
